WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES II

A professor meets Minhua Zhang, a Chinese scholar living in the United States, through their shared Christian faith. Believing her sincere and trustworthy, he helps bring her to Dongjia Medical University, build a research team, establish laboratories and research programs, write grant proposals, and secure institutional support. Minhua Zhang, however, turns faith, identity, academic titles, and personal relationships into instruments of personal gain. Research grants, subsidized housing for high-level recruits, special project funds, even a provincial key laboratory—nothing escapes her calculation. After being used, betrayed, and humiliated again and again, the professor gradually comes to see her for who she is. Her actions force him to reconsider not only faith and academic ethics, but also a university system in which personal interest so often takes precedence over principle.
